Among the mountainous terrain of California's central coast, Scotts Valley residents enjoy moderate weather and beautiful vistas of the redwoods. Named after Hiram Scott who settled in the area in 1850, the city still sits on part of the original ranch site. Camping is also offered nearby in several Redwood State Parks. 20 miles of hiking and riding trails have been preserved to look as it did many years ago with huge redwoods that are up to 1800 years old. For those looking to take it easy and sip some wine, residents indulge in the fine products of the Bonny Doon Vineyard. Recognized by Food and Wine magazine, Gourmet Magazine, Wine Cellar and the SF Chronicle, to name a few, Bonny Doon offers exquisite wine for both beginners and connoisseurs.

Additional attractions in the area include the San José Flea Market, a town favorite that includes eight miles of corridors of over 2,000 merchants. A culturally influenced community, San José thrives on the arts. The San José Museum of Art, the Tech Museum, the Rosicrucian Museum and the San José Museum of Quilts and Textiles all top the list for weekend fun. Santa Cruz is the nearby classic beach town, with locals riding the renowned waves. Not far from the surf break, the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk boasts calliope music, shopping and a seaside amusement park.
